Trip Report for Rattlesnake Ledge
Where: Snoqualmie Pass
When: Sunday, June 1, 2014
Stats: 4.0 miles round trip – 1,160 foot elevation gain
Due to the different directions we were coming from we decided to meet at the trailhead. Things were a little complicated by the fact that there was no AT&T reception up there, so we had to wander around until we found one another. We did so eventually, and got on the trail in good order.
The day turned out to be beautiful, beginning overcast and a little cool, but rapidly warming and with the sun coming out in force just before we summited. The only real annoyance on the trail was the sheer number of people, far too many of them with no inkling of trail etiquette.
Despite the crowding we soldiered on and reached the top without too much difficulty. What a gorgeous place! Even with far too many other human beings getting in the way the views were spectacular. Much to my liking were the abrupt edges and lengthy drops, catering to my love of unrestricted and open heights.
We stayed up there for quite a while, taking in the views, exploring, and clambering and bounding over the rocks. Ok, maybe I was doing the snow leopard’s share of the clambering and bounding. After a lovely sojourn on the ledge we came down quickly and went our separate ways. The only real wildlife sighting was when I almost ran over a black bear on I-90.
