Trip Report for Mount Zion
Where: Olympic National Forest
When: Friday, March 7, 2014
Stats: 4.6 miles round trip – 1,300 foot elevation gain
This was my first hike of the year (first hike since summer 2012). This was my first hike in new boots and other gear. This was my first solo hike. This was my first visit to the Olympic Peninsula in six years.
There was more snow on the road than there was on the trail, though what there was on the trail was the very hard and very slick variety. Overall it was a great hike, though the cloud cover prevented any views from the summit itself. I did get some good looks into the interior of the mountains from other parts of the trail, but was not able to find the extra trail out to the ledge as it was obscured by snow. I’ll have to return again when things have cleared up a bit.
